ABOUT THE PIECE:

My work relies heavily on looking inward and finding out what things make me, me. In what ways has my experiences and the memories I make influence my self Identity? Since coming to terms with being a lesbian I feel more connected to my figure drawings and my still lives. I realized that a lot of my work is influenced by my exploration of my sexuality. Suddenly a lot of things made sense and I can trace back to moments in which my identity was showing up in little glimpses.

This drawing felt was like a guilty pleasure for me. I wanted to draw the part of my queerness that I still felt slightly taboo about. I was totally accepting of the love part in my identity and I think about loving sapphics all day but the sex part still felt anxious to me. I felt like I wasn’t fully accepting of that part of me and wanted to create something that showed that I am a lesbian and a sexual being and I’m allowed to have that be something I desired!
